Our partner, the Swiss Christliche Ostmission, initiated a development project in Vietnam under the name ’Cow Bank’ in 2007. The project started in Xuan Phu in the province of Bac Giang because of the excellent cattle-breeding conditions. Needy families in this project receive a cow (the sum equivalent to 900 RON), something that completely transforms their lives. In return, each family receiving a cow gives back to the ’Cow Bank’ the first calf born when it is 9 months of age. This way, another needy family can receive this long awaited help. The project's first beneficiaries were 30 families and widows surviving on less than 3 RON a day. Without help from abroad, they wouldn’t have the necessary resources to rise above their impoverished conditions.

A significant aspect of the ‘Cow Bank’ project is that the families and persons involved benefit from not only financial support, but also training in cattle breeding and handling, skills necessary for their personal development and overall communal sustainability.
